Oventic (EZLN). Chiapas.

Oventic es una de las cinco comunidades zapatistas de Chiapas (llamadas "caracoles"). Y la única que se puede visitar. Está a unos 60 kms de San Cristóbal de las Casas. Para acceder, hay que pedir permiso en el portón de entrada. Entonces te hacen una serie de preguntas (nombre, nacionalidad, profesión, si perteneces a alguna organización, etc) y se retiran a discernir en la Junta de Gobierno. No siempre se permiten las visitas. Normalmente también exigen que muestres el pasaporte, aunque a nosotros no nos lo pidieron.Al cabo de media hora abrieron el portón y entramos. 

Oventic is one of the five zapatistas communities ("caracoles" mean "snails") in Chiapas (the only that is possible to visit). 60 kms from San Cristóbal de las Casas. To enter, it's neccesary ask por permission at the entrance. So,  they make some questions (name, nacionality, profession, if you are member of any organitation, etc) and go to decide to the Governing Council. Visits not always are allowed. Although we weren't ask to,  normally the ask you to show the passport. After 30 mins the gate was opened and we entered.

"STOP. Driver, wait till the gate is open. Whoever you are".

Hay una regla: no sacar fotos a ninguna persona. Aunque muchas llevan pasamontañas.

There is a rule: don't take photos to any person. Although many wear balaclava.

Así que la visita consiste basicamente en recorrer el pueblo y sacar fotos a los muchos murales que hay

So, the visit consists in walking and taking photos to the murals.

Durante la visita nos acompañó un guía (con pasamontañas), que permaneció callado todo el rato. Las pocas preguntas que hice (antes de ir nos advirtieron de que no nos mostrásemos muy curiosos), fueron respondidas con monosílabos.

During the visit a guide was with us (he wore a balaclava), who didn't say a word. Before going, we were adviced not to be very curious, the few questions I asked were answered in monosyllables

Al final de la visita te invitan a entrar en cada una de las cuatro tiendas que hay. Se entiende como gesto de buena voluntad que compres algo.

And the end, we were invited to visit every (four) shops they have. To buy something is a gesture of goodwill.
